Your operating manners and procedures
will pretty much remain the same on HF as they did on the tech and
novice frequencies. But our hope is to teach you a little something
about the TECHNICAL
aspects of HF operation. (And maybe even get you involved in
the Morse code anyway. It is a fun mode!)
You will be enticed into buying VERY
expensive equipment, such as transceivers and antennas. This need
not be the case! For instance, I worked The Azores (Off the coast
of Africa….) on 40 meters the other night…QRP….using one of my Yo-Yo-Vee
antennas and an old Yaesu
FT-107M. I recommend that you start out modest, and work your
way up as you gain more experience.
A simple rig like an Icom
IC-718 is a good start. Or if you can find an inexpensive used
rig at some of the ham classified websites: qth.com,
qrz.com, eham.net
and arrl.org. I
just sold a beautiful Kenwood
TS-140 for $350. A great start-up rig!
Antennas: another topic. You DO
NOT need to go all out quite yet
and purchase a huge tower, rotor and beam. In fact, I’d stay away
from ANYTHING
over a hundred bucks as far as an antenna.
Now some of you are not yet experienced enough in the art of making
your own dipole or loop antennas. And
that’s why we make the antennas that we do. We provide you with the
CONCEPT and PRINCIPALS
behind these antennas so you can eventually make your own. We explain
the relationship between the length of an antenna and its frequency
so you are getting a tutorial about the antenna, along with the product
itself.
And although our antennas are inexpensive, they last….and last….and
last. As a side note, Jackson County, Michigan experienced one of
its worst ice storms in recent history this past January. I lost a
Yagi beam and ALL
of my HF wire antennas. EXCEPT
for two! My 20 meter inverted Vee made
from #8 grounding wire. And my Yo-Yo-Vee….fixed
for 40 meter operation. (And that’s been up
at least FIVE YEARS!)
The point is:
our antennas are not just made for portable,
camping, backpacking, QRP or emergency operation. They
can be installed on a permanent basis and operated QRO!
Try us!
We think you’ll be well pleased. And be sure to take a look at what
others have to say about our goodies on our testimonial
page. (As well as the review
sections at Eham.net….)
Hope to have an HF QSO with you soon!
